The Golden State Warriors controlled most of the first half despite missing Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler. However, they couldn't sustain their momentum and eventually fell 121-116 to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.
Before the game, Curry joined the pregame huddle via FaceTime, while Green, wearing glasses and a navy sweatsuit, acted as an informal assistant coach. Butler was not present at the Golden 1 Center. The short-handed lineup still managed a quick double-digit lead before halftime.
“It was an amazing effort by our guys, and it should be a learning experience for our group,” coach Steve Kerr said after the game.
Golden State’s makeshift lineup featured a standout performance from rookie Will Richard, who led all scorers with 30 points. Moses Moody followed with a career-high 28, and Jonathan Kuminga contributed 24 points and nine rebounds. Despite their efforts, Sacramento’s Russell Westbrook recorded a triple-double with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists. Five other Kings also scored in double figures.
Richard, making his first career start, and Kuminga combined for all but two of the Warriors’ opening 23 points, helping Golden State secure a 32-25 lead after the first quarter, before ultimately fading late.
The undermanned Warriors surged early but couldn’t maintain their lead as Sacramento, led by Westbrook, sealed a 121-116 victory despite both teams missing key players.
