Health Alert: Recall of Popular Tomato Sauce Due to Botulism Risk

First and Last Bakery, LLC, a Connecticut-based company, has issued a recall for three tomato sauce products because of potential health risks. The recall was announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Recalled Products

All sauces are sold in 26 FL OZ jars and were available in retail stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including Big Y and Stop & Shop, starting September 22, 2025. The jars have Use By Dates of September 2026.

Health Risks and FDA Statement

The FDA's release noted these sauces were produced without an approved schedule or proper evaluation, raising the risk of contamination by Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium that causes botulism.

Botulism is a potentially fatal form of food poisoning that can cause severe health problems.

Symptoms of botulism may include nerve paralysis and muscle weakness. In extreme cases, the illness can cause respiratory failure and death.
