Carrie Bickmore Named 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria

Broadcaster and cancer fundraiser Carrie Bickmore OAM received the 2026 Australian of the Year award for Victoria at a Melbourne ceremony on November 6. Since 2015, she has raised over $27 million to combat brain cancer.

Contributions to Brain Cancer Research

Bickmore founded The Brain Cancer Centre in 2021, aiming to unite leading researchers to discover a cure. The centre funds nationwide research projects and conducts pioneering clinical trials for brain cancer patients, marking the first initiatives of this kind worldwide.

Brain cancer kills more Australian children than any other disease and affects more Australians under 40 than any other cancer — including Bickmore's late husband, Greg, who passed away in 2010.

2026 Senior Australian of the Year for Victoria

Elderly homeless advocate Bryan Lipmann AM was honored as the 2026 Senior Australian of the Year for Victoria. He founded Wintringham, an organization offering safe housing and care where elderly, poor, and homeless people live with dignity and respect.

Currently, Wintringham supports 3,000 individuals by providing accommodation and home care services.

2026 Young Australian of the Year for Victoria

Abraham Kuol was awarded the 2026 Young Australian of the Year for Victoria.
