PA systems, screens hacked with pro-Hamas messages at Kelowna, Victoria airports

Pro-Hamas Messages Disrupt Airports in Kelowna and Victoria

On Tuesday, October 14, flights at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) experienced delays due to a cyber security incident.

The incident began around 5 p.m., with public address systems and screens displaying pro-Hamas messages. The messages, which included "Free Palestine" and curse words targeting the U.S., were visible and audible throughout the airports for approximately two minutes.

"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging," said the airport in a press release. "It has also restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."

The City of Kelowna stated that the cyber security incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
